When Sony announced God of War: Ascension, its newest entry in the popular franchise, many fans were rightfully excited. The story picks up after Kratos is tricked into killing his wife and daughter by Zeus and subsequently banished from Olympus. On the run, Kratos is forced to journey across Greece to seek revenge for his loved ones' deaths. Along the way he will battle new beasts and overcome new challenges. The game is set to be released on March 12, 2013 in Japan, February 22, 2013 in North America and February 23, 2013 in Europe. The series has been well received by charting no. 1 on the sales charts at several retailers for a few weeks after its release into retail, ultimately selling over eight million units as of January 2012. On February 23, 2011, Sony announced that God of War: Ascension received the best ever opening day revenue for a PSP game. The game sold over 180,000 units one day after its release in Japan on February 22, 2011. On March 2, 2011, "God of War: Ascension" was released for the PlayStation 3 in North America. The game sold over 279,000 units that week and was the highest selling games of the week. It is currently the second highest selling ps3 title after resident evil 5 remastered both which have so far sold 1.5 million copies combined within their first month of release. "God of War: Ascension" received "generally positive" reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic. Critics were largely fixated on the story and its differences from previous games in the series. GamingXP gave the game a score of 8.5 out of 10, saying that "the old formula is still fresh thanks to brilliant level design and amazingly strong graphics". IGN's Colin Moriarty rated it 9.0 out of 10, saying, "Ascension isn't perfect or particularly innovative, but its excellent combat system keeps things interesting enough to make it feel like a necessary installment for series fans. New players won't like the game's challenging battles, but that doesn't mean casual fans can't enjoy it." GameSpot gave it an 8.5 out of 10, praising the game's "invigorating" combat system and "relatable" story. On its release in Japan, God of War: Ascension received critical acclaim for its story, set during the time period of the original game (though this is given away by Zeus' mention in one cutscene), and for improving upon certain aspects of the gameplay from previous instalments. cfa1e77820
